DEFINING
THE CHALLENGE

MALO CLINIC is an innovator in Oral Health worldwide. Coming out from the ranks of millions of small dental practices, over two decades the company was capable of bringing new solutions and grow into an operation crossing 4 continents, 8 countries and 22 cities.



The chosen growth model has also brought difficulties, namely financial. A new shareholder structure faced the need to bring the operation back to healthy profitability, engaging the company into higher productivity through newer and more modern processes.

Thus, the expectations on what pur’ple needed to deliver were high.

Approaching the challenge together with MALO CLINIC, our initial consideration was that as important as going in-depth on the business analysis, was involving as many points of contact as possible to enable us to feel and engage the organization.

More than 40 meetings were carried out with the core value chain of the business. This initial phase was crucial in order to understand in detail the different dynamics of the activity, as well as the different realities in terms of the size and operation of the clinics.

Using an approach based on work sprints, we’ve developed with the client a solution that focused on changing the culture of the company by pinpointing the levers of productivity and balancing those with both justice across the organization and individual engagement and growth.

Achieving such a solution was only possible because the process was designed to be one of co-creation with MALO CLINIC. Iteration after iteration, the solution became a fit to the client’s needs.

The focus of attention was to reconnect productivity, profitability and recognition for the different roles, creating an ‘invisible hand’ approach that would better align people to the overall purpose of the organization. Paramount to that was the need to maintain the focus also on the development of staff as well as on research – a core competency of the client.

The deliverables included:

  • the modeling solution at the P&L level (profitability, capacity, productivity);

  • the incentive design and;

  • the implementation support through communication and individual and manager-level simulators.

The modeling tool developed by pur'ple allowed us to carry out and test several scenarios together with MALO CLINIC and, thus, ensure their commitment to the solution presented.

The results of the project started to show-up only one month after its implementation: the schedules were much busier, the productivity was higher than before and the overall financial results of the company were rising.

With this joint project, we believe to have positively contributed to MALO CLINIC vision: to provide innovative solutions in the dental area worldwide capable of transforming smiles, fulfilling dreams.
